Whereas this is an improvement on streaming via WiFi from my iMac to an Apple Airport Express controlled by Remote App on iPad and thence via Toslink to the DACs it is still nothing like as good as playing CDs on my Denon CD1800BD in the UK or modified Musical Fidelity A32 in France. The decision to launch Spotify HiFi only moves the worlds largest streaming platform out of the dark ages and into 2010.

Technically the Krell has a fraction of the capability of the Raspberry Pi - but to be fair the Krell does come with a case and a power supply. Having said that though I have a Chromecast Audio myself I rarely use it these days as I have a Raspberry Pi with a HiFiBerry hat which has superceded it. A Chromecast Audio would be another option.
You will need both a streamer and and MQA-compliant DAC or a streamer which has an internal DAC which is MQA-compliant. My budget is 1000-1500k. Obviously quality depends on the source material so while Spotify Tune-In et al sound better than without the DAC if you stream Tidal or Amazons hi-res streams or even better hi-res files.
Also I am not technical enough to build a streamer from scratch like many had kindly suggested was the no-nonsense approach. Once your streamer-DAC and iPad control app know theres music available they can send out requests for certain tracks and sit back and wait while MinimServer does all the work on the NAS finding the file and sending the data to the streamer. Wow you are seriously confused.
The truth is that iTunes and Spotify made lossy and lousy sounding digital audio the reality for billions of consumers.
